Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education
Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education is the planned provision to promote the pupils’ personal, social and emotional development, as well as their health and wellbeing.
Through our teaching of PSHEE we aim to:
- Equip pupils with the knowledge and skills they need in order to lead confident, healthy and independent lives.
- Help pupils understand how they are developing personally and socially, and provide them with the tools to tackle many of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues that are a part of growing up, particularly with challenges faced in the modern world.
- Provide pupils an understanding of the rights and responsibilities that are part of being a good citizen and introduce them to some of the principles of prudent financial planning and understanding, therefore, developing a secure sense of identity in order to function well in the world.
We believe that the personal, social and health development of each child has a significant role in their ability to learn and enjoy learning. We value the importance of PSHEE in preparing pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. In addition, we believe that a child needs to learn about the many emotional aspects of life and how to manage their own emotions.
PSHEE also supports many of the principles of Safeguarding and helps the children understand how to stay safe. As part of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2022 and noted in the School’s Safeguarding and Child Protection policy, staff have a duty to ensure the welfare of all children. In the PSHE curriculum, the children are taught how to be safe, secure, healthy, develop emotional resilience, promote self-esteem and develop their confidence which is an integral part of growing up.
