Walhampton School has been increasing the awareness of its new charity, the Walhampton School Foundation Trust, hosting several events to help raise funds.
Before the Easter holidays, all pupils took part in a fundraising fitness activity. Our youngest children from Pre-Prep (ages 2-7) had a brilliant time enjoying a Mr Motivator style fun run around our grounds, stopping at various points to complete a set of star jumps, squats and lunges. Then, on the last day of term, our Prep School children (ages 7-13) along with plenty of staff and parents joined our supersized Lake Run as we each completed a 2.2km circuit around Pike Lake and Portmore Pond. The aim was to collectively run a total of 690km, the straight line distance from Walhampton to the Isle of Mull. Mull holds a special place in the heart of our senior children and plenty of Walhampton alumni who have spent their Expeditions Week enjoying all that this Scottish Island has to offer.
There was great excitement in the warm up led by Head, Mr Timms and Director of Sport, Mr White. Even Miss Sollars joined in dressed as a very large, inflatable dinosaur! Then with a loudspeaker countdown we were off, some sprinting, most jogging and a few enjoying a walk so as not to miss out on the fun. With some of our older children running two laps and plenty of help from staff and parents joining in we were delighted to achieve our goal!
Most importantly we raised over £1,300 from these two events for the Walhampton School Foundation Trust and ensured that the Walhampton community is aware of the important work that the Trust is looking to achieve.
Head, Jonny Timms, said: “The rain held off and it was fantastic to see our pupils along with plenty of their parents joining the supersized Lake Run efforts. The children arrived to lessons full of fresh air and enthusiasm for the day ahead. Not only were we getting our daily steps in but more importantly this was an opportunity to raise awareness of the ambitions of the Foundation Trust whilst having plenty of fun.”
