Walhampton celebrates World Book Day
Librarian, Miss Knight, organised a spectacular World Book Day celebration last week here at Walhampton. Pupils were inspired to read one of two cycling themed books, 'Knights and Bikes' by Gabrielle Kent or 'The Boy Who Biked the World' by Alastair Humphreys. Miss Knight also created an audio podcast for each book which children have been able to listen to at home, in their classes or in our boarding house.
On World Book Day itself, the children and staff dressed up as their favourite literary character before gathering in our Chapel for the Grand Inter-House Book Quiz. Representatives from our four houses had to answer quick fire questions, including a music round played by Mr Burton on our school organ. Wilberforce were the triumphant house!
The following day, Danny Butler, a Team GB trials athlete and European Champion, visited Walhampton to perform his Extreme Mountain Bike Show. Danny entertained the children with his tricks whilst also talking about his journey and the resilience required to keep practising and perfecting his skills. We welcomed children from local primary schools to share in the show and everyone went into the weekend itching to get out on their bikes!
